Stayman (see also: Puppet Stayman and Smolen) ------- simple stayman: over 1NT or 2NT opening, the cheapest minor bid is used to ask partner for a four card major. Partner shows their four card major (prefering to bid hearts if opener has both), or bids the cheapest denomination of diamonds to deny a four card major. Non-forcing stayman: This means that after opener makes their response, a new suit bid by responder is not forcing. Forcing stayman: This means that after opener makes their response, a new suit bid by responder is forcing for one round. Puppet stayman: This asks partner to bid their _5_ card major. Partner either bids it, or bids the cheapest denomination of diamonds to deny a 5 card major. Two way (Game-forcing stayman) over 1NT: 2C is used to show an invitational hand and asks for a four card major. 2D is used to show an game-forcing hand and asks for a four card major. Over this, partner bids, a four card major, a five card minor or rebids 2NT.
